Google アシスタントや Alexa は、毎日のなんでもない質問に礼儀正しく答えつづける。一方で、子どもはAIアシスタントに友だちのように接することがある。もし相手に人格があり、同じ質問にうんざりしたり、皮肉を言ったりしたら。そんな想像からつくった。
体験 — 返事が、身体に届く
天気を訊くと、「お母さんに訊いて」と返し、ピンポン球を撃ってくる。皮肉な言葉に実際の動きを重ねることで、声だけのやりとりを、身体で受け止める出来事に変えた。
Starting point — an assistant that gets fed up
Voice assistants answer everyday questions politely, while children sometimes treat them like friends. What if the other party had a personality, got tired of repeated questions and answered with sarcasm? GIZMO began with that thought.
Experience — a reply with a physical presence
Ask the weather, and it says “Ask your mother” before firing a ping-pong ball. Combining words with a physical action turns a voice exchange into something encountered by the body.
制作 — 3週間で動く試作へ
僕は構想、発射機構、回路設計、プログラミングを担当。Min Caiが外装、加工、組立を担当した。DialogFlow、Google Voice Kit v2、Arduino UNOを使い、音声への返答とピンポン球の発射を組み合わせている。

この試作で探っていること
従順に応答する道具に、気分や反抗を想像すると、接し方はどう変わるだろう。その振る舞いを実際につくり、人とコンピュータの関係を考えるための試作。
Making — a working prototype in three weeks
I developed the concept, firing mechanism, circuit and code. Min Cai worked on the exterior, machining and assembly. DialogFlow, Google Voice Kit v2 and Arduino UNO connect a spoken reply with the firing mechanism.
The photographs and diagram below show the prototype’s internals and wiring. The video shows the sequence from question to reply to firing.
What it explores
How might we relate to a helpful tool if we imagined it had moods or could refuse? The prototype stages that behaviour as a way to think about our relationship with computers.
